ITAC Solutions Welcomes Willis Watkins to the Birmingham Team
We are excited to welcome Willis Watkins to the Birmingham team. As Enterprise Recruiting Leader, Willis will lead and manage ITAC’s recruiting operations across the company’s footprint. He is a techie at heart, and his passion for serving others and competitive nature will make him an asset to the ITAC team. To learn more about Willis, check out this Q&A:
Q: Tell us about your background and previous experience.
A: I’m a techie at heart. I worked in technology recruiting for almost 8 years before moving into the corporate side as a talent acquisition manager with a local private equity group. Along the way, I built relationships with the senior staff here at ITAC, and when the opportunity opened up, they approached me to fill the role.
Q: What made you want to work for ITAC?
A: Not only the culture, but also the senior leadership’s desire to build a strategy, execute a strategy and find people who share similar passions about this industry, what it stands for and what that means for the growth of this organization.
Q: What are you looking forward to in your new position?
A: The thing that is going to be most exciting for me is being around people who are like-minded, passionate and have a heart of service. Some people refer to this role as “being in the game,” but
I don’t take this as a game. We often create life-changing experiences for the folks that we help. I’m looking forward to being surrounded on a day-to-day basis with people who are passionate in the line of service.
Q: What’s one thing you really want candidates and client companies to know about you?
A: I think one of the key things that a customer, whether it’s a client or a candidate, should know is that the folks they are working with are passionate about what they do. They are the people who, if you need help around town, they are the people that you go to—whether it’s in this office or you run into them in the grocery store.
Q: What’s your favorite part about working in Birmingham?
A: I’m originally from Miami, so Birmingham is a big culture shift. But I think the biggest thing in that statement is that what you see on TV is nothing like what you experience living in Birmingham. There is a sense of community and pride in who we are as a city with our long-standing history and how we are changing the scope and the image of Birmingham. Plus, the welcoming nature of the surrounding cities encourages me about where Birmingham has been and where it is going.
Q: Who is your role model?
A: My biggest role model would be my father. He passed away in 2012. He engrained a work ethic and a philosophy of life in me that today I find myself using both in business and with my 3 young sons.
Q: Favorite quote, saying or piece of advice?
A: I’m a competitive triathlete so my favorite quote is from Earnest Shackleton, “Fortitudine vincimus,” which translated from Latin means “By endurance we conquer.” I believe that, in the end, it is consistency and persistency that empower you to accomplish the goals you set for yourself.
Q: Favorite summer vacation?
A: My favorite vacation is anywhere with my boys and my wife. It can be anywhere. It can be in the front yard in the sprinklers, at the beach, a quick trip to the mountains—as long as I’m surrounded by them, it’s a good time.
Q: What’s something most people would be surprised to learn about you?
A: The one thing that people would find interesting is that while I’m considered outgoing, boastful and the life of the party, there is a part of me that can be somewhat reclusive.
- Tell us about your family and personal life.
A: With three boys (ages 10, 6 and 4), we have a very busy household. My wife’s name is Meredith, and she is a saint!
