There’s Momentum in Mobile
By: Tucker Frazer, ITAC Mobile Market Leader
From its family-friendly nature to its annual Mardi Gras festivities, living in Mobile has unique perks. This coastal town not only offers a low cost of living, but its small-town atmosphere and proximity to the beaches also generate a higher standard of living. Mobile may be a smaller town than any other ITAC market, but the momentum of the city rivals that of Nashville, Huntsville and Birmingham.
Businesses are Booming.
Mobile has been on a growth trajectory for several years now. First, the opening of Airbus’s manufacturing facility boosted the local economy and attracted a significant number of supporting suppliers into the area. Plus, Walmart and Amazon also announced that they are both opening large distribution centers in Mobile this year. And lastly, our port is consistently ranked in the top 15 percent in the US by total volume and is currently undergoing a $50M expansion. These additions and accomplishments create a trickle-down effect prompting more businesses to move into the area, which stimulates blue-collar and professional job growth.
Mobile is Hiring.
Everyone is hiring in Mobile right now – manufacturing, transportation, technology firms, accounting firms, law firms and healthcare – every industry seems to be growing and feeding off each other. While Mobile offers more opportunities in certain industries, ITAC does not focus on a specific industry or job type in Mobile. The city operates differently, so we adjust to serve its needs. Currently, jobs in these industries are especially in demand:
- Accounting/Clerical: Recently, our most in-demand jobs have been accounting-related due to our clients’ growth and their newly-created roles.
- Manufacturing: As the home to many chemical companies, steel and paper mills, aerospace manufacturing and shipbuilding, Mobile is a huge manufacturing base, which creates a larger percentage of skilled trade jobs in these areas.
- Engineering: Mobile is also home to the largest engineering firms in Alabama, both are ranked in the top 100 firms in the country, which creates a huge demand for engineers of all types—civil, mechanical, chemical and electrical.
- Technology: While Mobile has not traditionally had a huge technology base, the sector is growing rapidly, and I anticipate it to be a huge factor in job growth the next several years.
All in all, there’s momentum in Mobile, and I can’t wait to see the city continue to grow. If the easy commutes, waterfront activities and family-friendly coastal atmosphere catch your attention, come on down to the Port City, and we’ll find a job suited just for you. Contact ITAC Mobile today!
